Crusader: No Regret is a third-person shooter released in 1996 by the US development studio Origin Systems and the sequel to the game Crusader: No Remorse from 1995. It was published by Electronic Arts for MS-DOS .

action

The plot of Crusader: No Regret begins 46 hours after the finale of Crusader: No Remorse . The Silencer , which escaped from the exploding Vigilance space station in an escape pod, is collected by a World Economic Consortium ( WEC ) space transporter and brought to the WEC's lunar base, which functions as both a mine colony and a prison. In the course of the plot, the Silencer sabotages the infrastructure of the WEC, frees prisoners and at the end of the game finally faces the WEC chairman Draygan as the final boss . After this has been defeated, the resistance takes over the lunar base.

Gameplay

The gameplay differs only slightly from the predecessor. Extensive briefings and dialogues in the base are no longer necessary, but there is more often the possibility to control turrets or mechs .

technology

As in the predecessor, a modified version of the graphics engine of Origins role-playing game Ultima VIII: Pagan is used , which shows the game from an isometric perspective in SVGA . The graphics have been slightly improved and more destructible objects have been integrated into the environment. Like its predecessor, Crusader: No Regret uses full motion videos to advance the story in cutscenes.

Reviews

Like its predecessor, Crusader: No Regret received mostly positive reviews. The driving, action-packed gameplay was once again praised, while the Power Play criticized the lack of variety, the few innovations and the short playing time, which would give the impression that “it is a mission disk inflated to a full price title” .

Depiction of violence and age rating

After the USK approval from 18 years of age and the subsequent indexing of the predecessor in Germany, problems with the age approval were also to be expected for the successor. The game was therefore once again defused by the developer to remove all elements of violence. While Crusader: No Regret was published in the USA with the ESRB rating "T" (equivalent to "13 years and over"), this time the self-monitoring entertainment software gave it a rating of " 16 years and over".

Continuation and republication

A third and fourth part of the series were planned, but were not realized. 2001 right holder Electronic Arts gave the green light for a film adaptation of the predecessor Crusader: No Remorse , which was not implemented.

In June 2011, Crusader: No Regret was re-released along with its predecessor on GOG.com . The version is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP , Windows Vista , Windows 7 , Windows 8 and Mac OS X .
