Ctenogobius is a genus of bony fish from the group of gobies (Gobiiformes), which occurs in the coastal region of tropical seas in salt and brackish water as well as in the fresh water of flowing rivers.

features

Ctenogobius species are 2.3 to 20 cm long and are similar to the species of the genus Gobionellus . Characteristic of the genus is a sensory canal on each side of the head, which extends in an arc from the front nostril, above and behind the eyes (one pair of pores in front of the orbit , one pore above the orbit and two horizontally behind it) and another perpendicular to the gill cover (horizontally in Gobionellus ). The barbels or tentacle-like growths are missing on the front nostrils and on the chin, as are all other velvety papillae on the head. At the front of the first epibranchial (the bone support of the upper branch of the first branchial arch) there are no gill-trap rays . On the sides of the body there are 36 or fewer scales in a central longitudinal row.
