Combinations

cuboro is a ball track system that can be individually designed from wooden cube elements of the same size .

Based on a mathematical system, the beech wood elements with an edge length of 5 cm can be combined with straight and curved channels and tunnels to form an infinite number of rail systems that run both on the surface and inside the elements. The cubes are made of HSH-certified Swiss wood and are manufactured by the Nyfeler joinery in Gondiswil in Bern . Since 2006 they have been made of FSC -certified wood.

history

Matthias Etter 2017 in Essen.

cuboro was developed by the Swiss mechanic and special educator Matthias Etter (* 1954) working with special school children in Bern in 1976/77 as a simple educational game with six clay elements . Today it comprises over 120 different elements and is marketed worldwide by the company cuboro AG in Hasliberg Reuti. The further developed system was first launched in 1985 with twelve elements in multiple versions as a family game under the name Konstrito . The name has been changed for trademark reasons. The game has been expanded with thematically selected elements in various additional boxes. The system is now also available in the 10 × 10 cm ( cuboro XXL ) format . In 2010 the didactic instruction "cuboro creative thinking" was published by Matthias Etter in cooperation with cuboro AG and the publishing house ZKM (Zurich). In 2011 the English version was published by the Indian publisher Kidscon in Chennai and in 2016 the Russian version by the publisher Innovatika, Novosibirsk .

Competitions have been held in Switzerland since 1995 (game fair in St. Gallen until 2003, since 2004 Suisse Toy in Bern) and, for some years now, in Germany at SPIEL Essen . The participants have 20 minutes to construct a marble run system from selected cuboro elements. The ball should roll as long as possible. In addition, geometric planning, degree of utilization of the elements, aesthetics and originality are assessed.

Cuboro Babel , a three-dimensional tactical game, has existed since 2001, but because of its transparent system over time, similar to Mühlespiel or Four Wins , it does not offer long-term gaming enjoyment for ambitious frequent players. In 2012 the idea for Cuboro Tricky Ways arose , a further developed tactical game with real ball track elements.

Awards

The marble run system has received several awards:

  • 1995 with the designer award Complimenti of the Swiss trade fair Ornaris
  • 2003 with the American Major Fun Award for Toys
  • 2004 with the German toy prize Das goldene Schaukelpferd in the category "For artists and builders"

In addition, cuboro received the rating game good .
