geography

Curia is located about 20 km north of Coimbra , and about 3 km southeast of the county town of Anadia.

history

The French engineer Chapelle, who was staying at Curia in connection with the work he was involved in on the Linha do Norte railway line , cured a leg disease on the advice of the local population in medicinal springs there in 1863 . A spa was already established when the water quality was first scientifically examined in 1897 by Luiz Navega , a medical student of Charles Lepierre . The first bathing halls were built in 1900 , and new hotels and baths were built up into the 1930s. In 1993 the last bathhouse was rebuilt. The economic difficulties that had arisen in the meantime were largely overcome with the support of the district administration and the reorientation towards new health tourism .

Culture, sports and sights

The quiet, very green health resort with numerous trees and parks is now increasingly known as a tourist destination for wellness vacationers.

The Curia train station, designed by José Ângelo Cottinelli Telmo and decorated with azulejos , is a listed building, as is the Curia Palace Hotel , built in 1922 , the Grande Hotel da Curia , and the facilities of the Termas da Curia thermal baths . In addition to the tea house and the 14 hectare spa park, the latter house another hotel.

Sports facilities include tennis facilities and a golf course that was laid out in 2004. Thematic hiking trails lead through the region. Curia is also located on the Rota dos Vinhos Bairrada wine trail .

traffic

Curia is on the Linha do Norte railway line . The national road N1 runs past the village, and the nearest motorway exit is junction no. 14 ( Mealhada ) of the A1 motorway about 10 km away .
