Curiosity Killed the Cat was a British radio - pop band that existed from 1984 to 1994. From 1992 the group used the shortened name Curiosity .
Band history
The five band members met at the art school. Guitarist Julian Godfrey Brookhouse, bassist Nicholas Bernard Throp, drummer Michael Drummond and keyboardist Toby Anderson were already active in a band called "Twilight Children" and Ben Volpeliere-Pierrot joined them as singer. They found a manager who helped them sign a record deal with Phonogram . With Stewart Levine they produced their debut album , which was completed in 1986. The debut single Misfit was initially not a great success and only reached lower ranks in the UK charts . Nonetheless, the group got attention, which increased enormously when the artist Andy Warhol declared himself a fan of the band. Her second single Down to Earth then broke through and came in at number 3 in the UK. The song was later also placed in the German charts. Misfit's re-release with a hidden appearance by Andy Warhol in the accompanying video became another top ten hit. It also brought Curiosity Killed the Cat, the only single placement in the USA . The accompanying debut album Keep Your Distance was internationally successful and in 1987 reached number 1 in Great Britain and number 7 in Switzerland.
Two years later, Curiosity Killed the Cat released the album Getahead , which, however, disappointed expectations and was named & No. only produced one smaller single hit. The formation then lost the label's support. In 1992 she tried a comeback under the shortened band name Curiosity and without the keyboardist Anderson. They had another international hit with a cover version of the 1970s hit Hang On in There, Baby by Johnny Bristol , but the album Back to Front again disappointed and the group broke up.
