Curt Baerensprung

Curt Otto Sigismund Baerensprung (born December 14, 1851 in Belgern , † October 6, 1896 in Neisse ) was a German military doctor.

Life

He was a son of the general practitioner Dr. Bernhard Sigismund B. (1812-1852). After the early death of the father, the family took up residence in Torgau . Baerensprung attended the local grammar school from 1861 to 1870. After its termination, he reported as a volunteer in the ongoing Franco-German War , for which he was drafted into the replacement battalion of the 72nd Regiment in Torgau. Towards the end of the war, Baerensprung began studying at the Friedrich Wilhelm Institute for Medicine in Berlin on April 24, 1871, in line with family tradition , which he finished on February 15, 1875. On May 3rd of that year he received his doctorate , for which he wrote the thesis “ The liver abscess after head injuries ”. Starting on July 25, 1876, Baerensprung took up a position as an assistant doctor in the 3rd Pioneer Battalion in Torgau. In 1884 he was appointed medical officer. From May 10, 1886, he took on a position in Berlin at the Friedrich Wilhelm Institute for three years. After leaving there on March 10, 1889, he came back to Torgau. On July 1, 1890, Baerensprung was retired from active military service, but retained his position as a doctor in the military. As a result, he rose to the position of garrison doctor and later battalion doctor in the 72nd regiment. In 1895 he was appointed senior staff doctor, 2nd class, and then regimental doctor in the 23rd Infantry Regiment in Neisse.

Baerensprung died relatively young from a serious illness. He left behind his wife Alice Charlotte nee Koepke (1864–1897) and several children. Baerensprung was apparently buried in Torgau. He is well-known for his publication: Contributions to the pathology and diagnostics of liver diseases (1891).
