Curt Robert Viktor Thomalla (born July 12, 1890 in Friedland in Upper Silesia , † March 3, 1939 ) was a German screenwriter, neurologist and social medicine specialist .

Life

Thomalla was the son of a medical councilor. He attended the humanistic Bismarck-Gymnasium in Berlin and the Gymnasium in Waldenburg (Silesia) . After passing the school leaving examination, he first studied law, then medicine in Lausanne, Kiel, Würzburg, Erlangen and Breslau. He was a member of the Corps Holsatia (1910) and Rhenania Würzburg (1911). In 1912/13 he served as a one-year volunteer in the 10th Bavarian Field Artillery Regiment in Erlangen. In 1914 he moved into the field. After being seriously wounded, he continued his studies and passed the state examination in Wroclaw in December 1915. He then specialized in neurology and psychiatry at the Wroclaw City Mental Hospital . From 1918 to 1925 he was director of the UFA's Medical Film Archive . He carried out the scientific and dramaturgical processing of numerous educational films and popular science lecture films. Later he also took over the editing of feature films. From 1924 to 1926 he worked as a freelance writer and doctor. In 1926 he entered the service of the Reich Committee for Hygienic Education. In 1929 he became head of the press office of the Association of German Professional Associations.

After the Reichstag election in March 1933 , Thomalla became a consultant in the Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda (Department for Public Health and Welfare) in April 1933 . In 1938 he was appointed to the senior government council. In 1936 he published the book Be Healthy - Stay Healthy , which combined the ideology of racial hygiene with a strong anti-Semitic tendency. In March 1939 Thomalla and his secretary committed suicide by gassing; The reason is said to have been a rift with the political leadership.
