Cute High Earth Defense Club Love! ( Jap. 美男高校地球防衛部LOVE! , Binan Koko Chikyu Bōeibu Love! ) Is an anime , the same time by a manga , light novel and a computer game has been added. The work parodies the magical girl genre and is inspired by Sailor Moon - the protagonists, however, are “Magical Boys”.

action

First season

The lazy En Yufuin ( 由 布 院 煙 ) and the serious Atsushi Kinugawa ( 鬼怒川 熱 史 ), both high school students at the Binan Boys' School last year, are close friends and often visit a bathhouse together. This is run by the older brother of her classmate Yumoto Hakone ( 箱根 有 基 ). Yumoto, who often helps out in the bathhouse, is in the first year of high school, is childish and crazy. En and Atsushi are in the Earth Saver Club, which actually has no activities and only serves as an excuse for doing nothing. With them in the club are Io Naruko ( 鳴 子 硫黄 ), for whom money is the most important thing and who constantly trades on the stock exchange via his laptop, and the womanizer Ryū Zaō ( 蔵 王 立 ). In order to be able to register the club, however, you still need a third member. Suddenly a pink, wombat- like creature appears and asks for help, followed by Yumoto, who follows it and wants to cuddle it. The extraterrestrial being wants the students to defend the earth and love with the powers it has given them. Yumoto comes in fifth in the league and, unlike the others, is enthusiastic about the idea. When a monster attacks the school shortly afterwards, the others receive the powers of the wombat against their will and become "battle lovers". In cheesy, embarrassing costumes and equipped with magical powers, they finally defeat their opponents.

To their relief, however, they are not visible to their classmates. And so the student council around Kinshirō Kusatsu ( 草津 錦 史 郎 ), Ibushi Arima ( 有 馬 燻 ) and Akoya Gero ( 下 呂 阿古 哉 ) don't know who the Battle Lovers are. The three of them form the secret world conquest club Caerula Adamas and are behind the monsters at the school. Like the wombat to the battle lovers, an alien in the form of a small green hedgehog , Lord Zundar, gives them their powers and guides them. They create more monsters to defeat their adversaries by taking advantage of the negative mood of disappointed or frustrated people at the school. But the Battle Lovers can always resist the monsters. They are more distressed by the press club trying to find out who they are and the condition of Teacher Tawarayama. He was accidentally tumbled down the stairs by the wombat and his body has been controlled by the wombat ever since. So he serves as the club's liaison teacher. But the alien does not always succeed in keeping Tawarayama's body from decay or in controlling it properly.

After the plans for conquest have repeatedly failed and Caerula Adamas can neither identify their opponents nor separate them through arguments, Lord Zundar wants to change strategy. His boss, an alien in the form of a goldfish, puts him under pressure. Finally, at the school festival, Atsushi and Kinshirō happen to recognize their superhero and villain identity and a fight ensues - the others also recognize who their opponents are. But suddenly Yumoto's brother Gōra appears with the goldfish in hand and forces him to tell everyone the truth. In fact, their fight is an intergalactic reality television show produced by the goldfish and the hedgehog. The press club was inaugurated from the start and has therefore watched everything. The aim of the broadcast is to conquer and destroy the planet. Gōra had already prevented this in the past, he was the first battle lover. The wombat wants to save the earth's fauna from being destroyed by the television broadcast. In order to offer their viewers a spectacle, Zundar now manipulates Gōra so that he fights against the Battle Lovers. But together and with Caerula Adamas, the students can defeat the two aliens.

Second season

While the student council, with whom the Earth Defense Club is now good friends, goes on summer vacation, a surprising monster appears again at the Binan High School. The alien wombat also returns to fight the monster and gives the battle lovers new superpowers. This and the following monsters are created by VEPPer - as before from frustrated students by the World Conquest Club - twins who have just switched to school and receive their powers from the green flying squirrel Dadacha. First of all, the Battle Lovers don't know that behind the monsters are the twins, who have also moved into a palace across from the baths of Yumoto and his brother. However, they quickly notice that the haughty twins with their beauty and ability - besides school they are well-known Japanese idols - have already gathered a devoted fan club around them.

With the help of the fan club and desperate classmates, the VEPPers repeatedly attack the Battle Lovers, who, however, quickly lose interest in fighting and avoid it - they don't even know why they are being attacked. At least the two idols are not a threat to Earth. Their attacks are increasingly focused on Yumoto and after a while it becomes clear that the twins are infatuated with Yumoto's brother Gōra. He had saved her from a monster when he was a child himself, when he was a hero. While living among aliens, they were both teased for loving Gōra for being the villain in the intergalactic television series of the time. Now they envy Yumoto for his closeness to his brother and want him for themselves. Eventually they kidnap him so that the battle lovers have to fight them. Since they are lured into the palace of the VEPPs to fight and they take advantage of their popularity, the battle lovers are initially at a disadvantage. But the student council comes to their aid and they can turn the tide. Dadacha, who turns out to be Zundar's brother, tells how he made the VEPPs idols by promising them to meet Gōra again. Now he made money marketing the twins as idols and their role on the television show that featured their battles against the Battle Lovers. The great popularity of the five heroes in their television series in the fight against the Earth Conquest Club also made the VEPP jealous, as they wanted to be the first intergalactically popular Earthlings. But after they know all this and Gōra remembers the twins and praises them, the friends can convince the VEPPs that as idols they should give joy to their followers instead of the fight and everyone can be friends together. So the VEPPers give up their fight and join the Friends of the Earth Defense and Earth Conquest Club.

Happy kiss

A few years after all the members of the Earth Defense Club left the Binan boys' school, the two magical animals, Karls and Furanui, appear. They are the princes of the magical kingdom of Honyala Land and are supposed to prove on earth which of them is the better ruler. Furanui wants to rule people with violence and order and chooses the student council as an ally, consisting of the orderly chairman Ata Ibusuki, the handsome Taiju Unazuki and the cute but snooty Maasa Shirahone. She makes Furanui his knights. Karls, who wants to make everyone happy, gets to the group that is now occupying the Earth Defense Club's club room and just lounging there, like the previous one - especially the notorious lazy Kyōtarō Shuzenji. When the group consisting of him and Taishi Manza, Ryōma Kirishima, Ichiro Dōgo and Nanao Wakura are not in the club room, they are together in the public bathhouse. They are actually not interested in the battles against the Furanuis knights and rather try to avoid them. But Furanui and Ata turn again and again unhappy people at the school into monsters, who then attack their surroundings and Karl's knights. They then deal with the monster's misfortune, appease it and explain how it can find happiness so that it transforms into a human again.

After many unsuccessful arguments with Karl's knights - at the school festival, swimming festival or in normal school life - Ata Ibusuki is finally fed up and takes out his anger on Kyōtarō, who, despite his indolence, apparently succeeds in everything and can remain friendly and relaxed. Ata is transformed into a monster himself, which also frightens his two comrades. It is revealed that Ata was left alone in the bathhouse by Kyōtarō and Ryōma as a young child. Since then he has become more and more estranged from them and is jealous of their friendship and that Kyōtarō always succeeds in everything without any effort, for which Ata has to make an effort. But Kyōtarō can appease him too, he has always liked him and wished Ata would come to the bathhouse with his friends. But before they can finally do that, the two princes are called to Honyala Land. There the minister and brother of the king rose up against the ruler because he did not like his loose politics. He wants to lead the country with a strong hand. Both princes and their knights can finally convince the minister that the most important thing is to make people happy. The king and his minister and the two princes are reconciled and the knights can return home.

Origin and target group

The franchise was born from the idea for the anime series, which was also produced first. The first season was created at Studio Diomedéa based on the idea of Kurari Umatani , directed by Shinji Takamatsu and his deputy Chizuru Miyawaki . The scripts are by Michiko Yokote as lead screenwriter and Natsuko Takahashi , five episodes each, and Shinji Takamatsu and Chizuru Miyawaki each one episode. Masakazu Ishikawa was character designer, Yumiko Hara was a minor character designer and the artistic direction was Masatoshi Mutō . The second season was created at Studio Comet with the same director, but now with Yumiko Hara as the character designer in charge. Michiko Yokote was responsible for the overall concept for the second season.

The anime is aimed at a female audience, especially Fujoshi . According to director Shinji Takamatsu, it was important not to go too far in the allusions and to leave the viewer space to fill. In his earlier productions, on the other hand, the comedy arose precisely out of expanding. Part of the comedy in Earth Defense Club should also come from the fact that the typical action patterns of Magical Girls - like the transformation - are taken over unchanged and thus stand in contrast to the male protagonists. Another aspect of the production were transformation and fight scenes, which should look just as “ elegant and beautiful ” as with Magical Girls . The characters of the five heroes were initially designed as stereotypes, but were then further developed in order to avoid overly stereotypical characters.

The third season of 2018 was also created at Studio Comet under director Shinji Takamatsu, who was also the lead author. The character design was done by Tomoko Miyakawa and the artistic direction was Yasutoshi Kawai.
