The Cviček is a Slovenian wine specialty that is allowed to carry the quality designation PTP (Priznano Tradicionalno Poimenovanje). It is a mixture of up to fourteen fully developed red and white wines, in which the red wine content dominates with up to 70 percent, so that the wine has a light red, rosé-colored appearance. Since red and white wines that have already been fermented according to EU law cannot be mixed to produce quality wines, a special permit was issued for the Slovenian Cviček. There is a certain similarity to different Rotlingen , but with these the grapes or the mash of different red and white varieties are pressed and fermented and not finished wines are mixed.

Cviček is the original table wine from the Slovene Sava - Krka region south of Celje . Only wines from the Dolenjska region may be traded as PTP Cviček. Expansion of the base wines and the subsequent blending vary from one vintner to another. However, the very old red grape variety Žametovka , which is probably native to Slovenia, is the carrier variety with mostly 50 percent (occasionally up to 60 percent). In addition, wines from Blaufränkisch and Blauer Portugieser are mainly mixed in. About 30 percent, sometimes up to 40 percent of Cviček consist of white wines, of which Welschriesling is the most important variety. In addition, to a lesser extent, wines from the Kraljevina (a red Portugieser variety that is pressed white), Chasselas , Grünes Silvaner and Stajerska Belina (probably Red Veltliner ) are added to the mix. The proportion of white wine in the Cviček in particular varies greatly.

The Cviček is a pale red, dry, very acidic wine with an average alcohol content of around 9 percent by volume. It should be drunk young and well chilled. Due to the very low residual sugar (less than 2.5 grams / liter) it is also suitable for diabetics .

Cviček is also the Slovenian common name of the sea buckthorn ( Berberis vulgaris ).
