Cylindropuntia davisii is a species of plant in the genus Cylindropuntia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the English botanist from Edinburgh Peter H. Davis (1918–1992).
description
Cylindropuntia davisii has a shrubby growth, is branched in dense whorls and reaches heights of 25 to 60 centimeters. The roots have elongated, bulbous swellings. On the slightly sloping, light green, 4 to 6 centimeters long and 0.8 to 1 centimeter in diameter shoot sections there are clearly recognizable bumps. The tan-colored woolen areoles have yellow glochids 2 to 4 millimeters long . The seven to 13 thorns , occasionally up to 21, are present on almost all areoles. They are spread out, circular to flattened in cross-section, yellow to reddish brown to blackish, have a yellow tip and are 1.5 to 5 centimeters long. The loosely fitting sheaths of the thorns are yellow to tan.
The flowers are yellowish green. The yellow, top-shaped fruits are fleshy and not thorny. They are 2 to 3 centimeters long and 1 to 2 centimeters in diameter. The fruits sometimes proliferate and then form chains.
