Cylob

Cylob ( Chris Jeffs ; * 1976 ) is a British electronica musician, DJ and label owner . He also publishes under other pseudonyms such as Kinesthesia , Ambient News and Nonprivate .

Life

Jeffs learned to play the trombone in his youth . However, he later turned to electronic music , influenced by 1980s synth-pop , old-school hip-hop and electro . After producing a demo tape , he gave it to Richard D. James, known as the Aphex Twin, during a performance . He was then signed by James' record label Rephlex Records . Jeffs' first commercial release, Industrial Folk Songs , was released there in 1993 . Since then he has released several albums and singles on Rephlex as Cylob and Kinesthesia. Further releases appeared on his own label Cylob Industries and Ed DMX's label Breakin 'Records .

Although Cylob's music is mostly instrumental, his most famous pieces are probably Rewind! and Cut The Midrange, Drop The Bass, in which raps and vocals produced by means of speech synthesis are among the supporting elements. The one-cut video for the piece Rewind showed the karate athlete Chloe Bruce .

Jeffs has been living and working in Berlin for a number of years , where, in addition to music production, he also devotes himself to software development and conducts programming workshops. For his animation software Particularity , he was awarded first prize at the Lomus 2010 music software competition .
