Cyrus Maffet Palmer

Cyrus Maffet Palmer (born February 12, 1887 in Pottsville , Pennsylvania , †  August 16, 1959 there ) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1929 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Cyrus Palmer attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1907 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1911, he began to work in this profession in Pottsville. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1916 and 1920 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; from 1920 to 1927 he was a district attorney in Schuylkill County .

In the 1926 congressional elections , Palmer was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded George F. Brumm on March 4, 1927 . Since he was defeated by his predecessor Brumm in the primary elections of his party in 1928, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1929 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Palmer practiced law again. Since 1931 he was a judge in the 21st judicial district of his state. In 1940 he took over the presidency of this court. He held this office until his death on August 16, 1959 in Pottsville.
