Vincent Davis
Vincent Davis (born February 22, 1957 in Chicago ) is an American jazz drummer and percussionist.
Life
Davis studied from 1979 at the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music; his mentor there was Manty Ellis .
On his return to Chicago he became a member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians and worked a. a. with David Boykin , Malachi Favors ' Maghostut Trio . Since 1985 he has belonged to groups of Roscoe Mitchell such as his Note Factory and his trio with Harrison Bankhead and Jaribu Shahid , with whom he toured several times in Europe and Asia and performed at international festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival . He can also be heard on Mitchell's albums Songs in the Wind and This Dance is for Steve McCall , records by Jodie Christian and Scott Fields , and formed the Ensemble Laws of Motion . He also played with Matthew Shipp , Arthur Blythe , David Murray , Joseph Jarman , Marilyn Crispell , Von Freeman , Hamid Drake , Corey Wilkes , Ed Wilkerson and numerous other musicians. In the field of jazz Davis participated in thirty recording sessions between 1988 and 2009.
