George F. Brumm

George Franklin Brumm (born January 24, 1880 in Minersville , Schuylkill County , Pennsylvania , †  May 29, 1934 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1934 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives twice .

Career

George Brumm was the son of Congressman Charles N. Brumm (1838-1917). He attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1901 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After studying law and becoming a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. In 1916 he was deployed with the national guard of his state in a conflict with Mexico on the border between the two states . He then served as the Election Commissioner of the State of Texas . During the First World War he was a lawyer for the Conscription Board . Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party . In 1918 and 1920 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .

In the 1922 congressional elections , Brumm was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Fred Benjamin Gernerd on March 4, 1923 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1927. From 1925 he was chairman of the Department of Navy's Expenditure Control Committee. In 1926 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. In the elections of 1928 Brumm was re-elected to Congress in the 13th district of his state, where he replaced Cyrus Maffet Palmer on March 4, 1929 , who had been his successor two years earlier. After two re-elections, he was able to remain there until his death on May 29, 1934. This time was determined by the events of the Great Depression. The first New Deal laws of the Roosevelt government were passed in 1933 , which Brumm's party was more opposed to.
