The Dähler Born (source in the valley) is a well house for a sour water source in Koblenz . The water from the spring in the Ehrenbreitstein district is a Na-Mg-Ca-HCO 3 acid.

history

The Dähler Born was first mentioned in a document in 1327 under the name "Schwalborn" in Ehrenbreitstein. The writer Jakob Theodor reported in 1584 about the Dähler Born that its water was very much appreciated by the people and that it was bottled in jugs and delivered to Koblenz. In the 19th century, the sour water spring was very popular for its healing properties. Until the 1930s, the water was bottled in clay jugs and delivered to Koblenz by car.

Today's fountain house was built around 1820 and was probably a good source of income for the town of Ehrenbreitstein, which leased the spring, at the time of the construction of the Prussian fortress Ehrenbreitstein . During this time, unsuccessful attempts were made to develop thermal springs in Ehrenbreitstein by drilling. The fountain house was renovated in 1837, 1882/83, 1967/68 and 1994/95.

construction

The two-story well caretaker's house has an arched passage to the well room behind it in the middle of the ground floor . The classicist plastered building is provided with plastered square corner pilasters on the sides , above the slate roof on a console-supported cornice . Originally the entire ground floor was ashlar, some details of the building suggest that the design came from a craftsman or master builder who was involved in the construction of the fortress.

The well room was built in 1967 from exposed concrete with skylights . The newer version of the source is in the rear left corner under a copper cover. In the middle of the room is an old octagonal fountain trough with a new square fountain shaft, both made of basalt lava , to which four water taps are attached. The year of origin 1719 and the renovation years 1837, 1967 and 1994 are carved on the sides of the old fountain trough.

The Dähler Born is a protected cultural monument according to the Monument Protection Act (DSchG) and entered in the list of monuments of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . It is located in Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein in Obertal 24 .
