Company history

In the years 1884 and 1885 Dörries in Vussem and Scharmann in Rheydt (today Mönchengladbach) were founded as two independent companies. In the following 100 years, both companies became known for their machine tools.

Dörries and Scharmann merged in 1988 under the umbrella of the Voith Group. In 1990 the new company was taken over by the Vulkan Group . In the following five years Dörries Scharmann GmbH was merged with Droop & Rein, Kopp, Wohlenberg and Schiess AG to form Dörries Scharmann AG . At that time, this company had around 3,500 employees and achieved total sales of DM 500 million.

In 1996 Dörries Scharmann AG filed for bankruptcy in the context of the crisis at the parent company and the Vussem location was closed. Subsequently, the machine tool division with the companies Dörries, Scharmann, Droop & Rein and the French manufacturer Berthiez were transferred to the new Dörries Scharmann GmbH . A year later, after a management buyout, the company was renamed DS Technologie . This company was able to generate sales of DM 226 million in its first year with a workforce of 600 to 700 employees.

In 1998, 80% of the company was taken over by the holding company DBAG . In 2004 the name was changed to Dörries Scharmann Technologie GmbH . DBAG sells its shares in 2007 to the Austrian group A-Tec Industries . After its bankruptcy in 2010, the Dörries Scharmann Group came to StarragHeckert. The Italian machine tool manufacturer MECOF, which until then belonged to Dörries Scharmann, was not allowed to be taken over by StarragHeckert. In the meantime, Dörries and Scharmann are again managed as individual brands under the umbrella of the Starrag Group.

The company is a member of the Association of German Machine Tool Builders .
