Dürnast is a district of the municipality Weiherhammer in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt adWaldnaab (Bavaria).

The place is about twelve kilometers south of the Grafenwöhr military training area .

history

The Dürnast settlement dates back to a medieval resting place for carters on the Losberg am Röthenbach. This so-called "Pachstall" was located on Eisenstrasse near Kaltenbrunn , which was used to transport iron ore from Auerbach in the Upper Palatinate to the hammer mills in the area.

At Röthenbach there was a mill called Hüttenmühle or Lindenmühle in 1416. Around 1500 this was destroyed when a dam broke and then rebuilt on the site of the former Pachstall. From then on it was called the "New Mill". The Neumühle mentioned in the tax book of 1588 was destroyed in the Thirty Years War. In 1759 nine male residents are mentioned for the Neumühle. In 1792 the names Neumühle and Dürnast are mentioned for the first time.

In 1817 there was a brickworks in Dürnast, in which five to six employees worked in the summer and autumn months. The associated hamlet of Dürnast, together with the Neumühle wasteland separated by the Neumühler Weiher, had nine residential buildings and had 73 residents. After 1945, more settlement houses were built on Dorfstrasse. Forestry and the nearby Grafenwöhr military training area were important sources of income . Dürnast was part of the municipality of Mallersricht . In 1972 this was dissolved in the course of the municipal reform and Dürnast was incorporated into Weiherhammer.
