DAC 112 E is the name of a former Romanian trolleybus type and is composed as follows:

  • DAC = Diesel Auto Camion
  • 112 = series number
  • E = electric , additional designation for all Romanian trolleybus types, to distinguish it from diesel buses

history

In 1975, what was then Uzina Autobuzul Bucureşti in the capital Bucharest , which later traded under the name Rocar , began manufacturing three-door DAC 112 E standard trolleybuses . At that time the prototype was created, which was tested in Bucharest for a few months without passengers and finally went into operation in the same year with the number 324 in Constanța . The series was produced in large numbers until 1980 and was to be found in all Romanian trolleybus companies that existed at the time. These were the trolleybus Brașov , the trolleybus Bucharest , the trolleybus Cluj-Napoca , the trolleybus Constanța and the trolleybus Timișoara . In all five cities, they replaced the older and smaller cars of the two-door types TV 2 E (built from 1958 to 1969) and TV 20 E (built from 1970 to 1976) from the same manufacturer.

The solo vehicle type DAC 112 E - articulated cars were not produced - based on the produced also from 1975 Omnibus Model DAC 112 UD manufacturer's novel of Brasov . These in turn were a license replica of the so-called Metrobuses from the German manufacturer MAN . The type DAC 112 E was produced as follows, no exact data is available for Cluj-Napoca:

Construction year Brașov Bucharest Cluj-Napoca (from 1976) Constanța Timișoara
1975 36 (numbers 5001–5036)
1976 12 (numbers 1-12) 81 (numbers 5037-5117) 39 (numbers 1-39)
1977 30 (numbers 13-42) 50 (numbers 5118-5167) 20 (numbers 40-59)
1978 30 (numbers 43-72) 80 (numbers 5168-5247) 18 (numbers 60-77)
1979 25 (numbers 73-97) 73 (numbers 5248-5320) 12 (numbers 78-89)
1980 16 (numbers 98-113) 18 (numbers 90-107)
total 113 320 78 (numbers 324-401) 107

Retirement

After only a few years of use, the cars were withdrawn from the inventory; in Timișoara, for example, they were retired from 1981 to 1990, in Brașov from 1983 to 1994. In the capital Bucharest, only eleven of the once 320 vehicles were left in 1989, the last operated on lines 87 and 97 in November 1991. Some of them had previously been converted into overhead line trucks for internal transport. Four cars from Bucharest and six from Constanța came used to the trolleybus Iași , which opened in 1985 , where they were added to the inventory under the numbers 601 to 610. Another DAC 112 E came in 1986 as a work car for the Sibiu trolleybus, which opened in 1983 . There it was used with the number 306 until 1997 or 1998 as a catenary lubrication vehicle. Despite the large number of units, not a single DAC 112 E has been preserved in a museum nationwide.
