The 1st GDR best determination by the DFV in women's football took place in 1979.

qualification

15 teams, the 14 district champions of the GDR districts and the Berlin championship team, qualified for the preliminary rounds, which were held in Neubrandenburg , Gera -Zwötzen, Roßleben and Lauchhammer .

Almost 300 teams took part in the qualification.

The winners were the teams from Wolfen, Rostock, Dresden and Karl-Marx-Stadt.

Finals

On October 6, 1979, in front of 3,100 spectators in the Stadium of Friendship in Templin , the BSG Motor Mitte Karl-Marx-Stadt was determined as the first title holder in GDR women's football. The tournament with the four participating teams was played in the "everyone against everyone" mode in six games of two times 20 minutes.
