German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies

The German Society for Media and Communication Studies (DGPuK) is a scientific specialist society for communication scientists and communication practitioners, i.e. those working in media research, journalism , journalism , journalism training and public relations . The DGPuK was founded in 1963. Its aim is to promote common interests in journalism and communication studies.

The chairman is the communication scientist Lars Rinsdorf ( University of the Media ).

Emergence

In 1963, the DGPuK was founded as an association under the name "German Society for Media and Newspaper Science" and entered in the register of associations. The founding members included Emil Dovifat , Fritz Eberhard , Manfred Rühl , Günter Kieslich and Kurt Koszyk .

The professional association has had its current name since 1972. With the increasing expansion of the subject since the beginning of the 1970s, the DGPuK also grew. While there were around 100 members at the end of the 1960s, their number grew to over 200 in 1979 and over 300 in 1987. The DGPuK currently has 1068 members.

Specialist groups

The specialist groups meet regularly and organize their own conferences. There are currently the following specialist groups:

Publications

  • The journalism - quarterly issues for communication research appear since 1956 in connection with the DGPuK.
  • An editorial board of the DGPuK has been responsible for the e-journal "Studies in Communication | Media" since 2013.
  • Aviso is the name of the DGPuK's internal information service.
  • The DGPuK series of publications now comprises more than 30 volumes.

Congresses

Every year the society organizes an annual conference with a main topic. A conference volume with the most important contributions will then be published.
