Yella (born December 11, 1967 in Compton , California ; actually Antoine Carraby ), also DJ Yella , is an American rapper , hip-hop musician and porn producer . Yella was a member of the group NWA and thus one of the pioneers of gangsta rap . He derives his stage name from the song Mr. Yellow (by Tom Tom Club ).

Career

He and Dr. Dre played together in small clubs as World Class Wreckin 'Cru . You first hear Yella on the 1984 track Surgery with Dr. Dre and The Arabian Prince. At that time, hip-hop was still largely unknown on the west coast of the USA. About Drs contacts he came to the group NWA , and it developed a close personal relationship with Eazy-E . When the group fell out in the final stages, largely over allegations that Eazy-E was cheating on others as owners of Ruthless Records , he was the only one who consistently stayed on Eazy's side.

After the dissolution of NWA, he released his solo album One Mo Nigga ta Go in 1996 . The album is dedicated to his longtime friend Eazy-E and includes many features from former Ruthless Records artists.

Until 2011, Yella dedicated himself to the production of pornographic films, for which he also created the soundtrack. His goal is to become the largest African American porn producer.

According to his own statements, he would take part in a reunion of NWA , but in his opinion no full replacement for Eazy-E, who died of AIDS in 1995, is possible.
