Da'Vine Joy Randolph (* 21st May 1986 in Philadelphia ) is an American musical actress , singer and film and television actress , through their role as Oda Mae Brown in the Broadway production Ghost - The Musical was known for she was nominated for the Tony Award .

Life

Da'Vine Joy Randolph was born in Philadelphia in 1986 and grew up in Pennsylvania . After attending Temple University and graduating from Yale School of Drama in 2011, she devoted herself to singing and focused on musical theater. After an audition for an understudy for the Broadway production of Ghost - The Musical , which was currently playing in London's West End, Randolph was given the lead role by Oda Mae Brown and, after injuring actual actress Sharon D. Clarke , replaced her in her role in London . The newcomer was nominated for a Tony Award in 2012 for best supporting actress in a musical.

Randolph played the role of Charmonique in the comedy series Selfie . Randolph is the voice of Christine on the Netflix series The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show . In the film Dolemite Is My Name by director Craig Brewer , Randolph got a bigger role and played Lady Reed and also sang a song for the soundtrack with leading actor Eddie Murphy .
