On Becoming a God in Central Florida is an American television series starring Kirsten Dunst , Théodore Pellerin , Mel Rodriguez , Beth Ditto and Ted Levine . The comedy series, which is mainly based on black humor , was produced for the cable television broadcaster Showtime from 2018 and first broadcast on August 25, 2019.
The main screenwriters in charge of the series are Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky .

The series began in 1992 in the suburb of Orlando , Florida . Krystal Stubbs (played by Kirsten Dunst ) is a minimum wage employee at a water park whose family has been bankrupted by a pyramid scheme. Her husband Travis ( Alexander Skarsgård ) had started two years earlier to buy products from Founders American Merchandise (FAM) in order to recruit new participants in this system and to sell the products on to them. However, a large part of the revenue generated from this is then collected by higher ranks in the system. However, Krystal soon sees through this system, but lets her husband continue to participate, provided that he continues to work as an insurance agent and transfers the mortgage debt on time. Travis doesn't think much of it, however, and soon quits his job theatrically to concentrate fully on Founders American Merchandise . When Travis is killed by an alligator in a car accident that same day , he leaves his widow and their baby with a mountain of debt that they would never have been able to pay off as an employee at the water park. With debts at the bank and a debt collection agency that already takes the valuables in the couple's small house, and an impending loss of the house to the bank, Krystal feels compelled to make money quickly and so follows in her late husband's footsteps and begins to work at Founders American Merchandise. After trying to infiltrate the system, she starts selling the FAM products and starts to financially exclude her friends.

production
development
On January 6, 2017, it was announced that AMC had started production development. The series creators were Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky , who had also written the script for the pilot episode together . Together with Kirsten Dunst , Giorgos Lanthimos , George Clooney and Grant Heslov , the two would subsequently also appear as executive producers . The Greek Giorgos Lanthimos should also take on directing activities on the series. Production companies involved should include Smokehouse Pictures , TriStar Television, and AMC Studios .
On June 25, 2018 it was announced that production at YouTube Premium , the paid subscription of YouTube , had passed. Furthermore, YouTube announced that it had ordered a complete first season with ten episodes.
It was later announced that Esta Spalding , daughter of Canadian writer and university professor Linda Spalding , and Charlie McDowell will also appear as executive producers. While Spalding took on the role of showrunner , McDowell replaced Lanthimos as executive producer and director.
On June 17, it was announced that the US cable television station Showtime had taken over the rights to the series from TriStar and that the series would be broadcast directly on Showtime instead of on YouTube. August 25, 2019 was set as the premiere date.

In the first announcement at the beginning of 2017, Kirsten Dunst was introduced as the main actress of the series. On August 28, 2018, it was publicly announced that Théodore Pellerin would also play a leading role in the series. Just a little over two weeks later, on September 14, 2018, YouTube announced the engagements of Ted Levine , Mel Rodriguez and Beth Ditto as part of the series’s main cast ; Also Usman Ally would enter into a non-negligible role in production in appearance. On October 5, 2018, Julie Benz was featured as a supporting actress; Melissa De Sousa followed on November 21, 2018 as a supporting actress.
Filming
Filming began in October 2018 when it was filmed in New Orleans , Louisiana . On October 8, 2018 , the film was shot in Westwego , Louisiana, among others .

At Metacritic , the first season of the series received 76 out of 100 possible points on the Metascore scale based on 22 reviews. During the review aggregator of Rotten Tomatoes , the first season came to 84% from 33 reviews and an average rating of 7.47 out of 10th
