Vera Dace

Vera Dace - married Thomas (* 1921 in Manchester ; † June 1995 ) was an English national table tennis player and tennis player from the 1940s. She was once world champion in doubles and twice in team competition.

Career

Left-handed Vera Dace, who also played tennis, took part in four world championships from 1938 to 1950 . In 1947 and 1948 she was world champion with the English team. In 1948 she won the doubles title with Margaret Franks by winning the final against the English-Scottish couple Dóra Beregi / Helen Elliot . In addition, she reached the singles final in 1948, which she lost to the Hungarian Gizella Farkas . She won bronze in singles in 1947 and in doubles with Margaret Franks in 1950 and in team competition.

In August 1947, Vera Dace married the international cricketer Arthur H. Thomas. She had a daughter with him.

She died in 1995 shortly before the start of the Wimbledon Championships .
