Dace Rukšāne (born August 7, 1969 in Riga , Latvia ) is a Latvian author , journalist and columnist .

Life

Rukšāne studied biology at the Latvian University in Riga from 1988 to 1993 , then medicine at the Latvian Medical Academy from 1993 to 1995 . From 1999 to 2004 she worked as a freelancer and copywriter for various advertising agencies . Since autumn 2002 she has had her own column as a columnist in the Saturday supplement of the Latvian daily Diena , where she writes articles on the subject of sexuality and relationships. Since 2005 she has been editor-in-chief of the Latvian-language women's magazine Lilit .

When her debut novel Romāniņš (Eng. Little Romance ) was published by the Latvian Atēna Verlag in 2002, Latvia had its literature scandal - and Dace Rukšāne suddenly became a public figure. Her book, in which she lets her protagonist speak openly about cunnilingus , masturbation , lesbian “interludes”, threesomes and “the wetness between the legs”, was scandalized as an “erotic novel”, although the offensive passages only appear on a few pages. Depending on the point of view, the author's openness or sexual unrestrainedness was perceived as new, liberating or reprehensible. As a result, Rukšāne advanced to become the “sex guru” of Latvia and made a career as a columnist and editor-in-chief as well as a freelance writer.

In 2001 Rukšāne was awarded the special prize of the international jury of the Latvian play festival "Skate 2001" for her play Rit atbrauks Florinda (English: Tomorrow is Florinda ). She lives in Riga with her three daughters.
