Dacium

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dacium (also Dacien or Daz) is a regional chronostratigraphic stage of the Pliocene ( Neogene ) in the central Paratethys area.

Naming and stratotype

The stage is named Dacia after the Roman name for Transylvania (now Romania and Hungary ) . The name was suggested by Wawrzyniec Teisseyre in 1907.

definition

The lower limit of the Dacium is characterized by the first appearance of the mussel species Zamphiridacna orientalis and species of the mussel genus Parapachydacna . The upper limit to the Romanium is due to the first occurrence of the snail species Viviparus bifarcinatus .

Breakdown

The Dacium is divided into two sub-levels:

  • Parscovium (upper dacium)
  • Getium (lower dacium)

The lower Dacium is characterized by the occurrence of the mollusc genera Dacicardium , Euxinicardium , Pachydacna , Parapachydacna , Pontalmyra , Prosodacna , Pseudocatillus , Psilodon , Psilunio Viviparus and Zamphiridacna . The boundary between the lower and upper dacium is defined by the first appearance of Psilodon haueri and Zamphiridacna zamphiri . The layers of the upper dacium contain other species of Psilodon , Zamphiridacna and also Congeria , Dreissena , Euxinicardium , Gyraulus , Horiodacna , Limnodacna , Lithoglyphus , Melanoides , Pachydacna , Plagiodacna , Pontalmyra , Pseudocatillus and Viviparus .
