Dadosans

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dadosanen or Dedosizen (Latin Dadosesani , Diadesisi , Polish Dziadoszyce , Dziadoszanie ) were a west Slavic tribe on the middle Bober (possibly as far as the lower Oder with the Glogau Castle ) in western Lower Silesia in southwest Poland .

location

It is not entirely clear where the Dadosans lived exactly. The only place mentioned is Ilva Castle , which today is generally equated with the Chrobry castle wall in the Iława district of the town of Szprotawa ( Sprottau in German ) at the inflow of the Sprat into the Bober . (However, Iłowa is also a theoretically possible alternative location.)

However, a location along the Bobers from Ilva Castle does not seem to be possible, as a directly neighboring tribe of the Pobrane is named for the year 1086 and is generally interpreted as the Bobranen .

Therefore, it is assumed in Polish research today that the area to the east of the Bobers extended to Glogau Castle on the Upper Oder . But there is no proof of this.

history

The Dadosans appear as a tribe relatively early in a written source. In the description of the Bavarian geographer from the middle or the end of the 9th century, they are called Dadodesani .

Thietmar von Merseburg describes an encounter between the Polish Duke Bolesław Chrobry and the German Emperor Otto III in the year 1000 . on his journey to the canonization of Adalbert of Prague in Ilva Castle on the border of the Diadesisi area .

For the year 1015 he reports of a battle between German and Polish troops in the Diadesisi area .

For the year 1086 the dedosize is finally mentioned for the last time in a border description of the diocese of Prague in the Chronica Boemorum des Cosmas of Prague .

After that, they no longer appear in written sources.
