Tiantishan Grottoes

The Tiantishan Grottoes ( Chinese  天梯 山 石窟 , Pinyin Tiāntī shān shíkū , English Tiantishan Grottoes ), which are also known as grottoes in the Tianti Mountains in Wuwei ( 武威 天梯 山 石窟 , Wǔwēi Tiāntī shān shíkū , English The Grottoes in the Tianti Mountain ), Liangzhou Grottoes ( 凉州 石窟 , Liángzhōu shíkū , English Liangzhou Grottoes ) or Tiantishan Grottoes of Liangzhou ( 凉州 天梯 山 石窟 , Liángzhōu Tiāntī shān shíkū , English Liangzhou Tiantishan Grottoes ) are located in the area of ​​the free Wuwei City , Gansu Province , China . They are relatively early Chinese Buddhist cave temples .

The caves of the monastery complex are also called ( 天 佛寺 石窟 , Tiānfósì shíkū ) or the temple monastery of the Great Buddha ( 大 佛寺 , Dàfó sì ). It is located on the Huangyang River ( Huangyang He黄羊 河), about 60 km south of Wuwei at the eastern end of the Hexi Corridor .

The earliest caves were dug in the time of the Northern Liang . The complex has murals from the Northern Wei , Northern Zhou , Sui , Tang , Western Xia , Yuan and Ming Dynasties .

The Tiantishan Grottoes have been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China in Gansu (5-470) since 2001 .
