Dagmar of Mutius
Dagmar von Mutius (born October 17, 1919 in Oslo ; † November 5, 2008 in Heidelberg ) was a German writer .
Life
Dagmar von Mutius came from the noble family von Mutius . Her parents were the diplomat Gerhard von Mutius and Marie, née von Bethmann . Because of her father's job, Dagmar von Mutius spent her childhood and youth abroad. She lived in Oslo , Copenhagen , Bucharest and later in Berlin and on the family estate in Gellenau in the County of Glatz , which she took over management during the Second World War and which she had to leave in 1946 after expropriation and forced labor.
Since she got to know flight and expulsion from her own experience, these topics, which she deals with without assigning blame or complaint, play a prominent role in her works. The grief over the loss of family property and home is borne by the will to reconcile and the desire for a peaceful future. In 1963 she received the Eichendorff Prize for Literature for the autobiographical work Weather Lights , in which she describes the fate of some Germans who stayed behind in her Silesian homeland .
