Daichi Shintani ( Japanese 新 谷 大地 , Shintani Daichi ; born November 24, 1989 in Mima ) is a Japanese grass skier . He mainly drives FIS races in his home country and has taken part in two world championships so far.
Career
Daichi Shintani comes from Mima and lives in Sendai , where he studies at Tōhoku Fukushi University . He is the younger brother of grass skier Yukiyo Shintani . Shintani has been participating in FIS races in Japan since 2004 . In September 2005 he was among the top ten for the first time, in the 2007 season he achieved several top 5 results and in September 2008 he celebrated two victories in the slalom and the giant slalom in Shichikashuku in Miyagi Prefecture . Subsequently, he was regularly in the top 5 again until he won three FIS races again in 2011 and won one FIS race in 2012.
Outside of Japan, Shintani has so far participated in three Junior World Championships and two World Championships . At World Cup races that are mainly held in Europe, he has not started. Shintani played his first Junior World Championship in 2006 in Horní Lhota u Ostravy in the Czech Republic , where he finished 16th in the giant slalom and 26th in the Super-G. After not taking part in the Junior World Championship in 2007, he was among the top ten three times in 2008 in Rieden , Switzerland. He was sixth in slalom and sixth in super combined, seventh in giant slalom and twelfth in super-G. At the 2009 Junior World Championships , which took place in the Czech municipality of Horní Lhota u Ostravy like three years earlier, he was among the top ten in all four competitions. He reached fifth place in the giant slalom, sixth place in the super combined, seventh place in the super G and ninth place in the slalom. In the same year he first took part in a world championship in the general class in Rettenbach, Austria. He was 22nd in the super combined, 25th in the giant slalom and 32nd in the super G. In the slalom he was eliminated in the second round. He played his second world championship in 2011 in Goldingen, Switzerland . There he reached tenth place in the super combined, 13th place in the giant slalom and 14th place in the slalom. Only in the Super-G was he disqualified for a goal mistake.
