Daidzein (from Japanese daidzu outdated for daizu ( 大豆 ), "soybean") belongs to the group of natural isoflavones .
Isoflavones such as daidzein and genistein are found in a number of plants, but primarily in soybeans and soy products such as tofu and soy meat. Soy isoflavones are a group of compounds found both in and in isolation from soybeans.
There is several evidence that daidzein, like another isoflavone ( genistein ), shuts down transcription of the enzyme catechol- O- methyltransferase (COMT), which normally breaks down estradiol .
