Daisy Cleverley (born April 30, 1997 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand soccer player . She first played for the New Zealand women's national soccer team in 2014 .

Career

Shortly before her 15th birthday in April 2012, Cleverley took part with the U-17 team in the 2012 U-17 Oceania Women's Championship , where she scored three goals. With the victory in the championship, the team qualified for the U-17 World Cup for women in 2012 in Azerbaijan . She was used in all three games, but retired with the New Zealand team after three defeats in the preliminary round. Two years later she took part again in the U-17 World Cup, for which they did not have to qualify this time, and scored the only goal of the New Zealanders in the entire tournament in the preliminary round match against the Paraguayan team .

With the U-20 national team, she won the U-20 Oceania Women's Football Championship in her home country in February 2014 , qualifying for the 2014 U-20 World Cup . The New Zealanders reached the quarter-finals there for the first time. Cleverley was used in all four games. In October 2015 she was able to help defend the title of Oceania Champion. With five goals, she was the third best goalscorer of the tournament together with two teammates. The New Zealanders qualified for the U-20 World Cup 2016 in Papua New Guinea . There they were able to win their first game against Ghana 1-0, but due to defeats against France and the USA they were eliminated as third in the group.

On October 25, 2014, she made her debut for the New Zealand senior team against Tonga . Cleverley contributed two goals to the 16-0 win against the island nation at the 2014 Oceania Women's Soccer Championship . The New Zealanders qualified for the 2015 World Cup by winning the Oceania Championship

She took part in the World Cup as the youngest player on the team , but without being used. New Zealand was eliminated in the preliminary round.

Cleverley accompanied the New Zealand team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil as a reserve player.

Her next appearance was at the Cyprus Cup in 2017 . She was substituted on in the third group game against South Korea , which was lost like the first two games. In the game for 9th place, which was won 3-1 against Hungary , she was in the starting line-up. She then came on as a substitute for one of the two games against the USA in September , but only came on two substitutions at the Cup of Nations in spring 2019 due to an injury .

On April 29, she was nominated for the World Cup in France .
