Daley Mathison (born July 20, 1991 in Doncaster - † June 3, 2019 on the Isle of Man ) was a British motorcycle racer .

Career

Daley Mathison was a regular starter in numerous road races on the British Isles such as the North West 200 , the Southern 100 or the Isle of Man TT . In 2013 he made his debut on the Mountain Course on the Isle of Man at the Manx Grand Prix Newcomers A-Race , in which he finished fifth. In 2014 he won the ultralightweight race at the Ulster Grand Prix in Northern Ireland on a Honda . Its Isle-of-Man TT career included three podium finishes in the years 2016, 2017 and 2018 at the TT Zero - electric motorcycle races , including second place in 2017 behind Bruce Anstey for the University of Nottingham . He finished 11th in the 2018 Superstock race and 13th in the 2017 and 2018 Senior TT . Mathison set his fastest lap on the Mountain Course in the 2018 Superstock race at an average speed of 128.054  mph (206.083  km / h ), making it the 34th fastest driver in the history of the track. 2018 drove the second fastest TT-Zero lap in history with an average of 119.294 mph (191.985 km / h). In total, he started 19 TT races with 14 finishes and three podium places and won six silver and eight bronze replicas.

Deadly accident

Daley Mathison died on June 3, 2019 at the age of 27 on the Isle of Man when he was heading for the third round of the Isle of Man TT 2019 Superbike race with his BMW S 1000 RR on the Snugborough straight after Union Mills had an accident. He left behind his wife and a child.
