Damat İbrahim Pasha
Damat İbrahim Pascha († July 10, 1601 in Belgrade ) was a Bosniak and Ottoman general and statesman and between 1596 and 1601 three times Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire .
He was originally from Bosnia , but grew up in Istanbul . In 1582 he became Beylerbey of Rumelia , and in 1583 of Egypt , which was then an Ottoman province. In May 1586 he married Ayşe Sultan, the daughter of Sultan Murad III. and since then has been nicknamed Damat (also Damad ; Turkish "son-in-law").
In April 1596 he was appointed Grand Vizier for the first time; shortly afterwards he went on a campaign to Hungary, where he conquered the city of Eger . In the winter of the same year he was replaced as Grand Vizier by Cigalazade Yusuf Sinan Pascha , but regained his office after only about 45 days, on December 5, 1596. Less than a year later, however, he fell out of favor as a result of an inept personnel policy and the murder of the Crimean khan Fetih Giray which he had initiated ; when there were also disagreements with the sultan's mother, he was deposed for the second time on November 3, 1597. Again about a year later, on January 6, 1599, he was appointed Grand Vizier for the third time. On October 23, 1600, he captured the important fortress Kanizsa , which earned him the assurance of his office for life. This did not last long, however, because in the summer of the following year he contracted an illness, to which he succumbed on July 10, 1601 in Belgrade after five days of fever .
