Damen Fast Ferry 3717 is a type of ship from the Dutch Damen Shipyards Group . Two units of the SWATH type of ship were built for ferry traffic between Vlissingen and Breskens . The SWATH construction method was chosen because the ships are relatively insensitive to swell . They are basically designed for use up to wind force 9.

history

The construction contract was signed on March 26, 2002. The two ships were built at the Damen Shipyards Group shipyard in Vlissingen for the province of Zeeland .

The ships were christened on March 13, 2004 in Vlissingen . Godmother was the then Minister of Transport of the Netherlands , Karla Peijs. The ships were used on the ferry connection between Vlissingen and Breskens from the beginning of May 2004 and replaced the previously used double-decker car ferries, which were no longer needed after the opening of the Westerschelden Tunnel in 2003 (until the ferries were put into service, the ferry connection was still with the both ferries Koningin Beatrix and Prins Johan Friso , which had previously been used on the route by the shipping company Provinciale Stoombootdiensten in Zeeland). The ferry connection is operated by Westerschelde Ferry, a company in the province of Zeeland.

description

The drive of the ships carried diesel electric by two double electric motors of the manufacturer INDAR each with 1,320  kW power , directly on two fixed propeller effect. Two generator sets consisting of two MTU diesel engines (type: 12V4000 ) with an output of 1560 kW and two AvK generators with an apparent output of 1585  kVA are available to generate electricity for the drive motors . Two Caterpillar diesel generators with an output of 145 kW are available for on- board operation .

The generators are housed in two engine rooms on the main deck. This facilitates operation and maintenance in comparison to the limited space in the floating bodies in which the engine systems on SWATH ships are usually housed.

The entry and exit for passengers is at the bow of the ships. Appropriate ramps are installed there. The ships can carry 181 passengers and 75 two-wheelers. The two-wheelers can be found on the main deck. There is seating for passengers on the deck above. In addition, there are 32 seats on the open aft deck on this deck.
