The Damen Fast RoPax Ferry 5510 is a type of ship from the Dutch shipyard Damen Shipyards Group .

history

Two units of this type of ship were ordered in 2015 for the shipping company SPM Ferries in Saint-Pierre , Saint-Pierre and Miquelon and built at the Damen Shipyards Antalya shipyard. At the end of 2017 they were shipped to Saint-Pierre as deck cargo with a heavy lift carrier.

The ferries run every off the coast of Newfoundland lying French overseas territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon between Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, and the town of Fortune, Newfoundland.

Technical data and equipment

The hull is based on the ladies' design Stan Patrol 5009 or Fast Crew Supply 5009 with ax bow .

The vessels are of four four-stroke - eight-cylinder - diesel engines from manufacturer Caterpillar : each with 1081 (type C32 ACERT)  kW power driven. The motors act on four fixed propellers via gears . The ships reach a speed of around 20  knots . The ships are equipped with two bow thrusters , each with an output of 85 kW. Four diesel generators, each with 100 kW output (125  kVA apparent power ), are available for the power supply.

The superstructures are in the front half of the ships. The vehicle deck is located behind the superstructures and partially covered by them. The vehicle capacity is 18 cars or three trucks and six cars, which can be placed side by side in six car lanes or three truck lanes. Vehicles can access the deck via a stern ramp . Other loads can also be transported on the vehicle deck, which is open except for the front part.

The passenger capacity of the ships is 188 people. There are 46 seats on the main deck, 142 seats inside the deckhouse on the upper deck and a further 36 seats on the outer deck.
