Dan-Olof Stenlund

Dan-Olof Stenlund (born October 25, 1937 in Skellefteå as Dan Olof Bertil Stenlund ) is a Swedish university professor and choir conductor.

life and work

Dan-Olof Stenlund was born in Skellefteå in 1937 to the cantor Bertil Stenlund and his wife Esther Vikström.

He studied piano, organ, cello and voice at the Royal Swedish Music Academy in Stockholm and graduated as a church musician, répétiteur and music teacher. Conducting studies with Eric Ericson , Leonard Bernstein and Sergiu Celibidache also followed .

Stenlund took over the post of professor of choral conducting at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen at the age of 36. He is also a teacher of choral conducting at the Malmö Music Academy , and a member of the Royal Academy of Music .

From 1961 to 1974 Dan-Olof Stenlund was a church musician in Engelbrektskyrkan in Stockholm.

As an internationally sought-after conductor and choir director, Dan-Olof Stenlund teaches at the Malmö State University of Music and directs the local chamber choir, the Malmö Kammarkör , as well as the State Youth Choir Baden-Württemberg , where he also seeks dialogue with students and promotes talented young musicians .

In 2018 Stenlund was honored with the Swedish Royal Medal Litteris et Artibus .
