college

The University of Arkansas initially agreed to a sports scholarship for Bailey, but withdrew the offer after he was unable to assert himself as a starting kicker on their team . He then left the university and took a year off. The following season he came to Oklahoma State University and played from 2007 to 2010 for their team, the Cowboys, college football , scoring 57 field goals in 72 attempts and 199 extra points in 201 attempts. In 2010 he was awarded the prestigious Lou Groza Award for best college kicker .

NFL

Despite his good performance, Bailey was not considered in the 2011 NFL Draft , but was signed as a free agent by the Dallas Cowboys in the summer and was able to prevail against four other kickers in preparation. Already in his rookie season he drew attention to himself with outstanding performances and was able to set the first franchise records. He scored 32 field goals in 37 attempts and converted all 39 extra point attempts.

He also played at a high level in the following seasons and was a sure scorer for the Cowboys. The team therefore tied him long-term and in 2014 they agreed on a seven-year contract for 22.5 million US dollars , with a guaranteed 7.5 million.

In 2015 he was elected team captain of the Special Teams by his colleagues and was appointed to the Pro Bowl for the first time .

As part of the final squad reduction to 53 players before the start of the 2018 regular season , he was dismissed.

On September 18, 2018, Bailey was signed by the Minnesota Vikings to replace kicker Daniel Carlson , who had been sacked the day before .
