Danbury is a village in the City of Chelmsford in Essex in east England . It is located around 40 km northeast of London .
According to the last census, around 6500 people live in the village. Danbury is surrounded by large areas of forest, most of which are owned by the National Trust . However, the A414, which leads from London to the north, runs right through the town center.
history
The village of Danbury goes back to the foundation of a pre-Christian hill fort. Finds suggest a first settlement in the Iron Age . After the Romans and Anglo-Saxons , the area around Danbury was conquered by Danish tribes in the 11th century . After the conquest of England by William the Conqueror in 1066, the land around Danbury was settled by the Normans .
The oldest building still standing today is the Church of St. John the Baptist , which was built in the 13th century.
