history

The village of Danbury goes back to the foundation of a pre-Christian hill fort. Finds suggest a first settlement in the Iron Age . After the Romans and Anglo-Saxons , the area around Danbury was conquered by Danish tribes in the 11th century . After the conquest of England by William the Conqueror in 1066, the land around Danbury was settled by the Normans .

The oldest building still standing today is the Church of St. John the Baptist , which was built in the 13th century.
