Daniel Barría Zuñiga
Daniel Barría Zuñiga (born April 2, 1974 in Temuco ) is a Chilean chess player .
Life
He learned to play chess at the age of eight in Sweden . He lived there until he was eleven when the family moved to Chile. In 2000 he moved to near Valencia , Spain, and made a living there from translation and chess. He is married to the Chilean chess player Giovanna Arbunic Castro and has one son.
In the Catalan league he plays for Sant Adrià de Besòs and in Spain for L'Alfàs del Pi .
successes
With the Chilean U26 national team, he took part in the U26 World Championships in 1993 in Paranaguá (on the second reserve board), in 1995 in Parnaíba (on the second board) and in 1997 in Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña (also on the second board). In 1995 he received an individual gold medal for his result of 4.5 points from 6 games. With the Chilean national team, he took part in the 2006 Chess Olympiad in Turin and in the Pan-American Team Championship in 1995, where he achieved the second-best result on the third board.
Since October 2004 he has held the title of International Master . He achieved the standards for this in December 2001 at the Castellar del Valles tournament in Barcelona , in November 2012 at the 8th International Open in Valencia , which he won before Ibragim Khamrakulov , and in January 2004 at the 29th tournament in Seville . The title has not yet been requested for the FIDE Congresses in February and July 2004, as Daniel Barría Zuñiga had not yet reached the required Elo rating of 2400.
His Elo rating is 2341 (as of June 2020), which puts him in 18th place in the Chilean Elo ranking. His highest rating to date was 2462 in January 2007.
