Brunilda Giovanna Arbunic Castro (born July 1, 1964 in Punta Arenas ) is a Chilean chess player .

Life

It comes from the Magallanes region . She was trained in 1981 and 1982 by FM David Arturo Godoy Bugueño (* 1944; † 2007). She has been living near Valencia , Spain for a long time and is married to the Chilean IM Daniel Barría Zuñiga (* 1974). The two have a son and run a chess school, Academia Online Manuelito.

successes

At the U20 World Cup for Women in Youth, which took place in Mexico City in 1983 , she finished second behind Fljura Chassanowa . She took part in the interzonal tournaments of women in 1982 in Bad Kissingen and 1985 in Schelesnowodsk , but could not qualify for any women's world championship. She won women's zone tournaments in 1982 in Morón, Argentina, 1985 in São Paulo and 1999 in Villa Martelli, Argentina. She won the Chilean individual championship eight times. With the Chilean women's team, Arbunic took part in the 2012 Chess Olympiad .

She has held the title of International Women's Champion (WIM) since 1982 . She had topped the Chilean women's Elo rating for more than 20 years in the 1990s and 2000s. Giovanna Arbunic Castro plays club chess in lower Spanish leagues for the club Ajedrez Ed Manila Estrellas .
