Linda Creed
Linda Creed (born December 6, 1949 in Philadelphia , † April 10, 1986 in Ambler , Pennsylvania) was an American songwriter who wrote some of the most successful songs of the Philly sound of the 1970s with Thom Bell .
Life
Creed's musical career began in 1971 when Dusty Springfield recorded her piece I Wanna Be a Free Girl . That same year, Creed began working with Thom Bell . They wrote a number of hits for The Stylistics , including Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart) , You Are Everything and I'm Stone in Love With You . Also, The Spinners were given by the duo a number of hits delivered about Ghetto Child , Living a Little, Laughing a Little and The Rubberband Man .
The songs by Creed and Thom Bell are still often covered by artists from the soul , R&B and smooth jazz sectors , such as Prince in 1996 ; on his album Emancipation he released a cover version of the song Betcha by Golly, Wow , which Creed had written with Bell.
At the age of 26, Creed developed breast cancer . Still, she did not give up her job. In 1977 she wrote the song Greatest Love of All for Muhammad Ali's biography with the composer Michael Masser . In 1986 the piece was re-recorded by Whitney Houston . Just before he reached the top of the US charts , Linda Creed died at the age of 36.
A year later, her family founded the "Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation" ("Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation"). In 1992, Linda Creed was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame .
