Ibragim S. Khamrakulov (born July 28, 1982 in Samarqand Province ) is an Uzbek - Spanish chess player .

Life

Ibragim Khamrakulov learned to play chess at the age of six in the Soviet school system. Khamrakulov, who lives in Badajoz ( Extremadura region ), has since taken Spanish citizenship and has played for the Spanish national team since 2005. His brother Djurabek , who is six years his junior and plays for the Uzbek chess federation , has also been the grandmaster since 2018; his one year older sister Iroda played in five chess Olympiads for the Uzbek national women's chess team.

In 1998 Ibragim Khamrakulov won the Asian U16 Individual Championship and became U16 World Champion in Oropesa del Mar. At the Spanish individual championship in 2007 in Ayamonte , he was third. In 2007 he took part on the fourth board with the Spanish national team at the European Championships in Heraklion , and in 2008 also on the fourth board at the 2008 Chess Olympiad in Dresden .

He played team chess in Spain in 2004 and 2005 for CA Magic Mérida , in 2007 and 2008 for the club Cuna de Dragoes Ajoblanco Mérida , with which he was runner- up in 2007 and took part in the top board of the European Club Cup 2007. In the Portuguese 1st division he plays for DG Diana Évora , with whom he became Portuguese team champion in 2007. He plays for Colón Sabadell in the Catalan leagues .

He has held the title of chess grandmaster since June 2006, and fulfilled the required standards at two international tournaments in January 2004 and January 2005 in Seville and in July 2005 at the Narciso-Yepes Memorial in Lorca .
