José González García (born August 12, 1973 in Madrid ) is a Mexican chess player . He has been playing for Spain since 2018.

He won the Mexican individual championship in 1996 in Monterrey . He played for Mexico at seven Chess Olympiads : 1998 to 2006 , 2010 and 2012 .

At the FIDE World Chess Championship in 2004 , he failed in the first round to Vladimir Hakobjan .

In Spain he played for UGA Barcelona .

In 1996 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM). In 2004 and 2005, González García met three standards for the title of Grand Master (GM), but it was not until July 2006 that he exceeded the required Elo rating of 2500.
