Daniel Blanch

Daniel Blanch (born October 30, 1974 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan classical pianist. As a student of Maria Canals and Alicia de Larrocha , Blanch follows the tradition of the Catalan pianist school .

life and work

Daniel Blanch first studied at the Barcelona Acadèmia de Música Ars Nova with Maria Canals and Raquel Millàs . After receiving the title of senior piano teacher there in 1995 , he undertook postgraduate studies with Maria Tipo and Ramon Coll . He also completed master classes with Josep Colom , Alberto Portugheis and Alícia de Larrocha. He later worked on a broad repertoire with Brigitte Engerer in Paris .

In the El Primer Palau competition, he achieved second place. At the International Maria Canals Competition in 1993 he was unanimously awarded first prize in the category for young pianists. In 2004, in the same competition in the sonata duo category, she and the Polish violinist Kalina Macuta unanimously won first prize again.

As a concert pianist, Blanch performed in the Brahms Hall of the Wiener Musikverein , in St. James's Church in London, in the Auditorium Manuel de Falla in Granada, in the Witold Lutoslawski Halle in Warsaw, and in the Casa Elizalde with the soprano Marta Mathéu or in the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. He has worked with the Warsaw Symphony Orchestra , the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra , the Prague Radiophilharmonic Orchestra and the Prague Chamber Orchestra.

Since 2002 Blanch has formed a chamber music duo with the Polish violinist Kaluta Macuta. This duo has given numerous concerts at festivals in Spain, in which Blanch and Macuta combined classical works from the international repertoire with high-class, lesser-known works by Polish and Spanish composers. In 2008 the duo recorded a CD with two sonatas for violin and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven . Blanch himself made numerous recordings. In recent years he has focused on concerts by Catalan composers such as Joaquim Nin-Culmell , Carlos Suriñach , Ricard Lamote de Grignon and Manuel Blancafort .

In 2011 he was a founding member of the Associació Joan Manén , an association of which he is currently chairman. The aim of this association is to publicize and disseminate the music of the Barcelona composer Joan Manén i Planas .
