Daniel Jacob (Romanist)

Daniel Jacob (* 1957 in Heidelberg ) is a German Romanist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Heidelberg in 1976, he studied Romance languages, geography and, at times, classical philology . He studied abroad and was a foreign language assistant in Lyon and Paris . He was a research assistant / working student at the Dictionnaire Etymologique de l'Ancien Français, in the linguistic data processing department of the Institute for the German Language in Mannheim and at the Scientific Center Heidelberg of the company IBM Germany (legal expert system LEX). After receiving his doctorate in Romance philology in Heidelberg in 1987 (dissertation: marking of actant functions and “predetermination” in French , supervisor Klaus Heger , Kurt Baldinger ) he was a research assistant at the Institute for Integrated Publication and Information Systems of the Society for Mathematics and Data Processing in Darmstadt . There he worked on the GENESIS project (generation of natural language texts). From 1988 to 1994 he was a research assistant for Romance linguistics at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau (chair Hans-Martin Gauger ) and worked in the DFG- funded Collaborative Research Center 321 (transitions and areas of tension between orality and writing). After his habilitation in 1994 in Freiburg im Breisgau (habilitation thesis: The auxiliaryization of HABERE and the emergence of the Romance periphrastic perfect, illustrated by the development from Latin to Spanish ), he taught from 1996 to 2001 as a professor for Romance linguistics at the University of Munich . From 2001 to 2007 he was Professor of Romance Philology / Ibero-Romance Linguistics at the University of Cologne . Since 2007 he has been Professor of Romance Philology (French and Spanish Linguistics) at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg.
