Daniel Ott (composer)

Daniel Ott (born September 6, 1960 in Grub , Canton Appenzell Ausserrhoden ) is a Swiss composer .

Act

In 1980 Daniel Ott passed his piano diploma . He then worked as a teacher in the Basel and Graubünden regions and worked in independent theater groups. From 1983 to 1985 he studied theater in Paris and London . From 1985 to 1990 he studied composition with Nicolaus A. Huber at the Folkwang School in Essen and with Klaus Huber at the Freiburg University of Music . Daniel Ott has been working as a freelance composer, pianist and performer since 1990 with a focus on new music theater as well as interdisciplinary and spatial and landscape-related work.

The full-length music theater cycle ojota I – IV was created in 1999/2000 . In 2000 he wrote Klangkörperklang - Music for the Swiss Pavilion at the Expo 2000 in Hanover by Peter Zumthor . This was followed by landscape compositions for the port of Sassnitz / Rügen (2002), the pilgrimage site Heiligkreuz / Entlebuch (2003), the Neisse between Görlitz and Zgorzelec (2005) and the Rhine port of Basel (2006).

From 1995 to 2004, Daniel Ott held a teaching position for experimental music at the Berlin University of the Arts , where he founded the KlangKunstBühne summer academy in 2003 . Since 2005 he has been Professor of Composition and Experimental Music Theater at the Berlin University of the Arts. In 1990 he founded the Festival for New Music in Rümlingen and is a member of the board. In 2016 he took over the artistic direction of the Munich Biennale together with the composer Manos Tsangaris (successor to Peter Ruzicka ).
