Otto Kolleritsch

Otto Kolleritsch (* 17th March 1934 in Brunnsee , Southern Styria ) is an Austrian musicologist and emeritus professor at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz whose longtime rector he was.

biography

Otto Kolleritsch, the younger brother of the writer, poet and philosopher Alfred Kolleritsch , grew up in Brunnsee as the son of the forest manager of the Brunnsee estate and graduated from high school in Graz. He studied piano and music theory at the State Conservatory in Graz and philosophy and musicology at the Karl Franzens University . In 1968 he was with the dissertation The concept of German life civility in Thomas Mann : attempt a philosophical justification sociological research doctorate .

In 1970 he took over the management of the "Institute for Valuation Research" (now the Institute for Music Aesthetics ) at the University of Art Graz (KUG) founded by Harald Kaufmann , which he headed until 2002. His successor is Andreas Dorschel . In addition, from 1970 to 2002, Kolleritsch was the scientific director of the music symposia that have been held annually since 1970 in the program of the festival of contemporary music “ Styrian Autumn ” and was editor and co-author of the publication series Studies on Valuation Research until 2003 . His scientific work covers the areas of music aesthetics and music sociology as well as problems of reception research of music.

From 1979 he was rector of the KUG, followed by Sebastian Benda in 1987 . From 1991 he was rector of the KUG, and in 2007 he was succeeded by Georg Schulz .

As chairman of the art college committee of the Austrian Rectors 'Conference and one of the vice-presidents of the entire Austrian Rectors' Conference, Kolleritsch contributed to the development of the organization and study laws for the Graz University of Art.
