The Austrian University Conference - The Austrian Rectors 'Conference (official English name: Universities Austria ; former name until 2008: Austrian Rectors' Conference ), uniko for short , is an association whose purpose is to support Austrian universities in the fulfillment of their tasks and in safeguarding their interests and thus the Promotion of science and research is.
history
The first meeting of the Austrian University Conference took place in Vienna in 1911 . From the entry into force of the University Organization Act 1975 until the end of December 2003, when the University Organization Act 1993 was replaced by the Universities Act 2002 , the Rectors' Conference was a federal institution with partial legal capacity (as a public corporation ).
In addition to the internal coordination of the Austrian state universities, the Austrian University Conference represents the concerns of the universities in international and national affairs and in public, so it is a member of the European University Association .
Members of the Austrian University Conference are the state universities in accordance with the University Act , which are represented in the plenary assembly by the respective rector . The president is elected from among the university rectors. Sabine Seidler , Rector of the Vienna University of Technology , has been president since January 2020 ; Elisabeth Fiorioli has been Secretary General since 2012.
