Daniel Szarata (* 27. August 1982 in Halberstadt ) is a German politician of the CDU and since 2016 deputy in the parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life

Szarata attended the "Brothers Grimm" primary school until 1993 and then the Martineum grammar school in Halberstadt until 2002. In 2003 he began studying European administrative management at the Harz University of Applied Sciences , which he graduated in 2007 with a degree in administrative management (FH). He then began his professional career as a clerk at the Ministry of Economics and Labor of the State of Saxony-Anhalt . In 2009 he switched to Förderservice GmbH of the Sachsen-Anhalt investment bank as a clerk for one year . In 2010 he returned to his previous post and worked as a project manager in the department for interregional affairs and development cooperation. In parallel to his professional activity there, he studied from 2010 to 2012 with a degree in Public Management Master of Arts at the Harz University of Applied Sciences. Since 2013 he has been working for the EU service agency of the Sachsen-Anhalt investment bank.

Szarata joined the Junge Union in 1999 and was district chairman of the JU Halberstadt / Harz from 1999 to 2011. He has been a member of the CDU since 2001 and a member of the district committee of the CDU Harz since 1999. From 2010 to 2014 he was deputy chairman of the CDU local branch in Halberstadt.

Szarata has been a member of the Halberstadt City Council since 2004 and has been chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there since 2014. In the state elections in March 2016 , he was elected as a direct candidate for the CDU via constituency 14 (Halberstadt) as a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. He won the direct mandate with 35.9% of the first votes .

On July 19, 2020, Szarata was elected Lord Mayor of Halberstadt in the runoff election against incumbent Andreas Henke .
